Day 1 of the new year and a new endeavor to review a scent a day for (ideally) another year.

Scent Name:  Blood Moon 2011

Manufacturer: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab –  A Little Lunacy: September 2011

Scent Description and Notes: “BLOOD MOON 2011
It was night, and the rain fell; and falling, it was rain, but, having fallen, it was blood.

A Lunacy inspired by the magnificently morbid fantasies of Edgar Allan Poe: laudanum-stained linen scented by an ink-smeared tobacco musk and phantom bloodstains illuminated by monstrous moonlight.” -BPAL.org

Oil Color:  A russet bronze color.

Bottle Design and Artwork: This is a standard vial / imp size (1/32 oz). This is a decant from ralenth.  On the back, she has the notes of the scent in large, italic font. The side displays her decanting name.  The front has the name of the scent, the company acronym, and the collection framing a large blood moon rising in the sky.

Scent:

  • ITI:  Inky laudanum splashed upon worn, musky linen.  This really does invoke Poe!  I can just picture him in his study fervently writing under a blood moon.
  • Wet: Strong tobacco and musk, while laudanum takes up the middle territoriality   I can still get ink and linen, although they are not as prominent at this stage.
  • Dry:   It’s gone slightly soapy with the resin, but the linen, laudanum, musk, and tobacco still round out the scent to create something enticing while slightly foreboding.

Other Impressions: “Rose, baby powder, and black tea.” -Tony
