I didn’t even know I had this scent or that it existed, so this is a blank-slate review.

Scent Name:  Gaueko

Manufacturer: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab – Excolo

Scent Description and Notes: “The Basque God of Night and all the perils of the darkness. Though he is the God of the Danger that Lurks in the Gloom, he is kind to men and warns them against the nighttime hazards and sets rules of conduct for both the living and the dead as they travel through his domain. It is said that since the warm, vibrant daylight is for the living, the abodes of night are reserved for the dead. All who heed his counsel are protected, but woe be to any man that disobeys the laws of Gaueko: he is swift to punish those that would scorn his advice.

Blackened sandalwood and misty lavender, with curling wisps of smoky tobacco, nag champa, and labdanum. -BPAL

Oil Color: It reminds me of pitch, although there is the slightest green tinge to it.

Bottle Design and Artwork: This is a standard vial / imp size (1/32 oz). The label wrapped around the bottle features an Art-Deco inspired Phoenix with the name of the company at the bottle of the image. On the other side, the title of the scent written in large, clear black font outlined with red on the front.

  • In the Imp (ITI):  Wow, that reminds me of being out in the woods.  I get thick labdanum and smoky tobacco.  I’m intrigued.
  • Wet: Sticky, resinous labdanum, hints of lavender fields, tobacco, and a hint of nag champa.  This is definitely something I would wear again.
  • Dry: It’s super spicy now – the nag champa is dominant with the sandalwood and labdanum followed up by the slightest hint of lavender.

Other Impressions:Like curry and nag champa, but in a good, sweet smelling way. He really likes this one.  It apparently makes Tony hungry.
