Scent Name: The Snow Maiden

Manufacturer:  Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab – Yule 2006

Scent Description and Notes: “The Snow Maiden is the daughter of Spring and Frost: as lovely as the first snowfall, and as striking as a sliver of icicle. Isolated because of her chilly otherworldly nature, and unable to know love, she longed for the companionship and warmth of mortals. One bright, white winter’s day, the Snow Maiden came upon a gentle, handsome shepherd named Lel. She grows fond of him, and beseeches Mother Spring to grant her the ability to feel. Her mother is moved by her daughters plight, and blesses her, but the moment the Snow Maiden is struck by the depth of love she feels for Lel, her heart warms, and she melts.

Ylang ylang, osmanthus, spring berries, and daffodil cloaked in hoarfrost. -BPAL

Oil Color: – I cannot tell the color of the oil by looking into the brown apothecary bottle.

Bottle Design and Artwork:  This is a 5ml standard brown apothecary bottle.  The label extends just under halfway around the bottom.  The label looks like the image below.

Scent:

  • ITB: The moment I sniffed the recent BPTP release of the perfume, I knew I had to have Snow Maiden.  It’s everything I love about the Lab’s snow scent (crisp, cool, refreshingly citrus tinged) plus red berries and faintly innocent florals.
  • Wet:  I get more osmanthus on my skin, but the citrus-infused snow is still very prevalent, as are the berries.  I get just a touch of ylang ylang underneath, which is pleasant.
  • Dry:  It’s soft like falling snow, floral from the ylang ylang, and slightly resinous (and powdery in the best way) from the myrrh.  We have a winner!
Other Impressions:  “Biter orange rind and violet in the background.” -Tony
