Scent Name: Adam
Manufacturer: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab – Only Lovers Left Alive
Scent Description and Notes: “Adam, our suicidally romantic scoundrel. His scent is a palette of somber colors, melancholy memories, and lupine, savage beauty: black leather, pale sandalwood, ambergris accord, and the memory of a long-lost Victorian fougère.His internal life seems to be reflected in his lair, so his perfume also possesses the scent of the wood of his guitars, the rosin from his violin bow, the musty wool of neglected Oriental carpets, the plastic, metal, and magnetic tape of his reel-to-reel, the dust that permeates everything.“ -blackphoenixalchemylab.com
Oil Color: I cannot tell through the brown colored glass.
Bottle Design and Artwork: This is a 5ml standard brown apothecary bottle. The label extends just under halfway around the bottom. The background image is of a hifi recording studio. Just above the company name along the bottom is the full collection information in slightly Gothic-inspired font in a blood red color. The name of the scent is aligned to the right of the label and is in block white font.
- ITB: This is a really nice, almost floral black leather, well conditioned and almost buttery if I were to visualize it. That note is closely paired with a really lovely dusky purple fougere. Oh yes, I like Adam so far.
- Wet: On my skin, the leather note reminds of of the Lab’s Leather Phoenix, but the combination of other notes makes this so much more attractive due to the musk, rosin, and gentle’s fougere.
- Dry: Once dry. the dusty note becomes more obvious, jiving with the leather, wool, rosin, musk, and now very faint fougere. I like the whole story of Adam as a scent.
Other Impressions: “Woah, leather. It smells like the world’s worst goth band, ‘Musky Rose.’ For what it is, it smells good, but I don’t know if it smells…it smells like it would be better as a candle. It’s a nice environment smell.” -Tony
