Scent Name: Daruma Doll

Manufacturer: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab –  Lupercalia 2016: Shunga

Scent Description and Notes: “Red musk and almond husk with sweet fig, Bulgarian rose absolute, blood orange rind, and green cognac.”  -https://blackphoenixalchemylab.com/shop/limited-edition/lupercalia-2016/daruma-doll/

Oil Color: The color of a burnished copper penny.

Bottle Design and Artwork: This is a standard vial / imp size (1/32 oz). I obtained this imp from moons_storm, who includes the notes of the scent on the back, a more transparent version of the bottle art (a daruma doll with a vulva for its face), along with the scent name, the company acronym, and her decanting information on the front.

  • ITI: Soft, sweet, and soothing.  The fig and almond husk read as almost paste-like, glistening with sugars, while the blood orange and red musk deepen the scent and add a very red, resinous tone to the mix. Rose hangs toward the bottom, offering a lovely, refined, and feminine take-away. The green cognac seems to float off the the side in this scent, not wholly connected to the sweetness of the other notes.
  • Wet: The almond and the rose absolute are more  pronounced once the oil is applied to my skin. However, the scent as a whole shifts to one that is much softer and muskier.  I almost imagine that there’s sandalwood in here, but that’s not the case.  The blood orange mingles nicely with the must and I can see now that the green cognac adds a bit of complexity, enhancing the musk and tying together the blood orange and the fig.
  • Dry: While the throw dissipates quickly, what remains is a nice combination of blood orange rind, red musk, and faint impressions of fig and rose absolute. Pleasant.

Other Impressions: None.
