Scent Name: Blue Moon 2018
Manufacturer: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab – A Little Lunacy: January 2018
Scent Description and Notes: “The spirit of the full moon is capricious, intense and passionate, yet still distant, aloof and cold. Luna herself governs glamours, bewitchments and dream-work, innocent wonder, transient pleasure and delight, the Moment, impulse, mystery and veils. The Blue Moon is one of her rarest manifestations, and this scent is formulated to encapsulate her most complex and profound nature:
Mugwort and bay, for psychic sensitivity…
Juniper, for divination through dreams…
Orchid and galbanum, for complexity, wisdom and noscere…
… with a potent lunar-charged blend of exquisite Asian woods, moonflower, Madagascan ylang ylang, Florentine iris, wild juniper, starry bergamot, elemi, green tea absolute, palmarosa, cucumber, Clary sage, lettuce leaf, melilot trefoils, wood aloes, and pale creeping buttercup.“ -BPAL.org
Oil Color: A thin yellow-tinged oil.
Bottle Design and Artwork: This is a 5ml standard brown apothecary bottle. The label extends just under halfway around the bottom. The label features the name of the company in a small, thin white font along the bottom of the label. The name of the scent is in bold block font, atop which is the year in a teeny version of the font aligned to the right. The label art is as follows:
- ITB: Woody and herbal, but pleasantly so. The bay, juniper, and smokey Clary sage are well balanced against one another against the mugwort and woods. I am getting hints of pale floral, but they are papery and diminutive next to the herbal notes.
- Wet: Okay, that’s lovely. Once on my skin, the bergamot and elemi bloom alongside the bay, mugwort, lettuce leaf, and Clary sage atop subtle tones of green tea, cucumber, aloe, wood and moonflower. Very reflective and assuredly contemplative. I feel like this would be a great scent for a zen day or for a meditation practice.
- Dry: After 4 hours, the scent is herbal, clean, and soothing, the sage, aloe, bay, and mugwort being very faintly discernible. There’s not a lot of throw with this one, but for such a meditative and cool scent, I don’t mind one bit.
Other Impressions: None.
