Scent Name: Annales Veteris et Novi Testamenti

Manufacturer: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab – Good Omens

Scent Description and Notes: “Archbishop James Usher (1580–1656) published Annales Veteris et Novi Testamenti in 1654, which suggested that the Heaven and the Earth were created in 4004 B.C. One of his aides took the calculation further, and was able to announce triumphantly that the Earth was created on Sunday the 21st of October, 4004 B.C., at exactly 9:00 A.M., because God liked to get work done early in the morning while he was feeling fresh.

This too was incorrect. By almost a quarter of an hour.

The whole business with the fossilized dinosaur skeletons was a joke the paleontologists haven’t seen yet.

Fossilized amber, dusty white sandalwood, galbanum, balsam of Peru, and brown oakmoss.” -https://blackphoenixalchemylab.com/shop/neil-gaiman/good-omens/annales-veteris-et-novi-testamenti-perfume-oil/

Oil Color: A honeyed burnt sienna colored oil.

Bottle Design and Artwork: This is a standard 1/32 ml imp that has been decanted for me by Absinthetics. Her label features the scent notes on the back along with her decanting information and the scent name. The label art is as featured below:

  • ITI: It starts off sweetly resinous in amber tones before something earthy but almost soapy surges up behind it, which might be both the balsam and oakmoss. I was hoping for more sweet resins tones, but that might change upon application.
  • Wet: It’s still heavy oakmoss and balsam following a split second of rich, golden amber; however, rays of galbanum and sandalwood are able to peek though as the scent warms.  It does skew unisex to me, but I’m liking it at this point.
  • Dry:  Ok, this one is worth the dry-down.  An hour later, this scent sings in golden notes of amber, galbanum, and powdery white sandalwood, intensified ever so slightly by the balsam in the background.  I’m not sure where the oakmoss went, by the resins are amazing in this blend!
