Before I delve into either my BPAL backlog of Laces I have sitting on my table or past Lupercalia imps, I found a few old from the GC hiding out, uncategorized and unreviewed, that need to be dealt with.
Manufacturer: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab – Ars Moriendi: In Memoriam – Vintage 2004
Scent Description and Notes: “We in dark dreams are tossing to and fro…
Soft and melancholy, a poignant blend of Roman chamomile, rosewood, cypress, Rose Otto, lavender, sandalwood and ylang ylang.” -bpal.org
Oil Color: Colorless on my skin.
Bottle Design and Artwork: This is a standard 5ml brown apothecary bottle. The label wrapped around the bottle features the name of the company in thin yellow font outlined in black along the bottom while the name of the collection is in a larger, Saloon-like version of the company name. The title of the scent scented in the same black outlined yellow color scheme, but a more embellished font. The background the name is set against is a burgundy and tea rose Damask print.
- ITB: The scent doesn’t remind me so much of despair as heartache and remorse. The combination of ylang ylang, rose otto, and chamomile edged with ghosts of lavender is pale, mournful, and sublimely evocative. Gorgeous!
- Wet: Oh yes, that’s lovely. The chamomile is just a bit stronger, but it’s freshly picked, a soothing comfort against lavender and pale rose for remembrance. The ylang yglang adds a jaw-aching brightness like stinging tears before the lavender settles and the sandalwood along with the cypress glide to swatch the once bright floral in a cloak of muffled mourning.
- Dry: After an hour, the rose otto and roswood have strengthened some alongside the cypress while the lavender, subtle sandalwood, chamomile and ylang ylang flicker like ghosts in the background. Somber, remorseful, contemplative, and beautiful!
