Scent Name: Noctule Bat
Manufacturer: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab – Event Exclusive: Bat’s Day 2013
Scent Description and Notes: “Haitian vetiver, licorice root, wild plum, immortelle, and white sandalwood.“ -BPAL.org
Oil Color: A brilliant orange colored oil.
Bottle Design and Artwork: This is a standard 5ml BPAL brown apothecary bottle. The label wrapped around the bottle features the name of the scent in Gothic white block font outlined in black along the bottom of the bottle, just over the name of the company, which is in a smaller version of the same font. The collection name and year mirror the company name’s font, aligned to the right. The label art is as featured below:
- ITB: That’s interesting! Plummy vetiver is what I’m getting most clearly, although there is a subtle sweetness that is no clear enough to attribute it to any note specifically.
- Wet: The vetiver is just gorgeous here – broadly smoky, assertive but also lovely next to the wild plum. After just a minutes, licorice root and soft sandalwood lighten up the strong top notes just before a gentle breeze of soft floral swells and then fades away under the stronger, darker tones.
- Dry: It’s dusky, dry sandalwood with hints of an earthy licorice root and hazy vetiver with a very subdued floral far in the background. It reminds me of dusk at Joshua Tree National Park.
Other Impressions: “It’s like cherry intense, but like sugar cherry.” -Tony, half asleep.
“Oh, what are you wearing? I like it!” -Kelly
