Scent Name: The Hellish Tattoo of the Heart
Manufacturer: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab – Halloweenies 2017: The Tell-Tale Heart
Scent Description and Notes: “But even yet I refrained and kept still. I scarcely breathed. I held the lantern motionless. I tried how steadily I could maintain the ray upon the eve. Meantime the hellish tattoo of the heart increased. It grew quicker and quicker, and louder and louder every instant. The old man’s terror must have been extreme! It grew louder, I say, louder every moment! — do you mark me well I have told you that I am nervous: so I am.
Blood musk and pulsating black pepper, a throb of bitter almond, and cracked pimento.”-https://blackphoenixalchemylab.com/shop/limited-edition/weenies-2017/the-hellish-tattoo-of-the-heart/
Oil Color: The color of mahogany
Bottle Design and Artwork: This is a standard vial / imp size (1/32 oz). This is a decant which features the scent information on back and the image that would be on the bottle on front. The label art is as featured:
- ITI: Spicy blood musk with a healthy smattering of marzipan and burnt coffee, which I think is supposed to be the bitter almond note. The pepper fills the background, causing my nose to tingle and my throat to constrict ever so slightly.
- Wet: I can actually pick out the pimento on my skin, but that’s followed by the bitter almond, then the black pepper, while the blood musk, raging and heady, strives to engulf the other notes that bloomed on my skin after initial application.
- Dry: The blood musk is really beautiful in this blend, especially paired with the pepper and pimento. It’s like Red Hots meets mulling spices. The bitter almond fades to add some ephemeral sweetness to the more expressive notes.
Other Impressions: I’m not sure which note it is, but my skin welled up and turned rather red when I applied it to my neck. I don’t get the same reaction on my hand, but it does turn slightly red, but I just wanted to add this information in case anyone else’s skin is particularly sensitive.
