Scent Name: Joyful Dalliances in the Underworld
Manufacturer: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab – Lupercalia 2016: Shunga – Novel Ideas for Secret Amusements
Scent Description and Notes: “Black leather aflame with a cherry-infused cognac that has been spiced with brown sugar, vetiver, black pepper, and dried apricot.” -BPAL.org
Oil Color: A thin mead colored oil.
Bottle Design and Artwork: This is a standard 1/32 ml imp that has been decanted for me by Absinthetics. Her label features the scent notes on the back along with her decanting information and the scent name. The label art is a woodblock print of an Oni in hell, crowed with phallus details, looking over a scene of a female soul in blue breathing fire from her vulva, while male souls look on and pleasure themselves in delight and horror.
- ITI: Ooh, raw black leather rubbed with sticky cherry cognac, smokey dried apricot, and black pepper. It’s a rather naughty scent, this one. It reminds me of S&M scenes infused with a boozy sweetness that makes it hard to turn away.
- Wet: Oh, hello there apricot! I wasn’t expecting that to be the dominant note on my skin, although it’s less of a dried apricot than it is a warmed apricot jam, heavily spiced and smoked with vetiver, served with a shot of still cognac on a polished leather serving tray. There’s a touch of cherry, but it is very subtle. This scent reminds me of a posh drink served in a dark but trendy bar.
- Dry: I’m happily surprised to have any scent left after a full day of wear. It’s mellowed to a lightly sugared apricot musk with just a shadow of vetiver, but I enjoy it nonetheless.
Other Impressions: None.
