Since it’s Con season, I figure it’s time to review my backlog of convention event exclusive oils from Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab.
Scent Name: The Library is Haunted
Manufacturer: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab – Event Exclusive: DragCon 2018
Scent Description and Notes: “Why does she insist on turning every conversation into a reading challenge?
An ephemeral white chypre with honeysuckle, blue lilac, a burst of wisteria, Italian neroli, jasmine sambac, and grave moss.“-bpal.org
Oil Color: Colorless on my skin.
Bottle Design and Artwork: This is a standard 5ml brown glass vial. The label features the name of the scent along the top, centered, in a bold yellow font. The company name is in the same font along the bottom. The image is of a spooky queen dawning winged gravestone earrings, a winged skull cameo, and a winged mini-top hat, bluish violet hair waiving in the either, outlined in a supernatural glow.
- ITB: This definitely smells ephemeral and ever so slightly spooky with its white chypre tinted greener with creeping moss, shocked through with neroli while clouds of wisteria and lilac dance in the background like delightful apparitions.
- Wet: Oh, that’s a lovely wave of florals – honeysuckle and wisteria threaded with lilac, wafting over a soft jasmine sambac. After a few seconds, the neroli heartbeat quickens alongside the mossy, citrus-adorned chypre before the honeysuckle, wisteria, and jasmine reassert themselves. This reminds me of midnight strolls mournfully perfumed with gently swaying flowers.
- Dry: 11 hours after application, there’s just a whisper of the perfume left, alluding to ghosts of honeysuckle and much faded jasmine sambac. I like this more than I thought I would as jasmine tends to be overbearing on my skin. This, however, is well balanced by the additional florals and the white chypre.
Other Impressions: None.
