Scent Name: Seasons of Ghosts
Manufacturer: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab – Yule 2018
Scent Description and Notes: “In Latvia, the Ziemassvetki, or Winter Party, is a celebration of the birth of Dievs, the Sky God and Supreme Ruler of the Latvian pantheon. The two weeks prior to the Ziemassvetki is Ve?u laiks: the Season of Ghosts. Candles are lit to honor the gods and a fire is kept burning throughout the Season, burning away the unhappiness of the previous year so men’s spirits can be renewed. At the feast of the Ziemassvetki, places are left as a courtesy to the ghosts, who arrive by sleigh.
A scent created to burn away sorrow: bergamot, frankincense, rose geranium, ginger, lemongrass, and blood orange.” -https://blackphoenixalchemylab.com/shop/winter-collection/yule-2018/the-season-of-ghosts-2/
Oil Color: Colorless on my skin.
Bottle Design and Artwork: This is a standard brown apothecary bottle. The label wrapped around the bottle features the name of the company in pale pink font along the bottom. Above that is the name of the scent in shadowed and outlined larger white font. The name of the collection is in lighter pink font along the top of the label. The label art is as featured below:
- ITB: Sweetly refreshing, like a citrus cooler garnished with ginger and a drop of bergamot. I don’t pick up on my rose geranium at this point, but there is something faintly woody underneath the scent, which could be ginger skin or super faint resin.
- Wet: Proud lemongrass and super juicy blood orange make my mouth water as soon as I apply it to my skin. The ginger adds some lovely, unobtrusive spice to the scent while the frankincense and rose geranium add what reads to my nose as almost a red Spice Drop under. Oh my goodness, this is my ideal mixed drink.
- Dry: As it dries, the blood orange shifts from juicy, ripe fruit to blood orange skin, sweet Spice Drop frankincense topped with a lovely rose geranium. The lemongrass and ginger settle more toward the background in the first 10 minutes, adding a dry spiced huskiness that tempers the bright notes. After 2 hours, the scent has faded quite a bit, but it still faintly smells like bright citrus with a hint of ginger powder. I’m a fan!
Other Impressions: I think this would be a phenomenal scent to pair with any of the lab’s Snowball scents, especially Yellow Snowball.
