Scent Name: Reflections Under Bereavement
Manufacturer: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab – Yule 2018: An Evening With the Spirits
Scent Description and Notes: “I can only consider departed spirits and ministering angels, as one innumerable company continually surrounding us. And are they not as nearly united to their fellow soldiers now, as when in the body ! What should hinder ? Gratitude and affection are natives of heaven, and live for ever. Forgetfulness is a property of mortality, and drops off with the body. Therefore, they that loved us in the Lord, will surely love us for ever. Can anything material interrupt the sight or presence of a spirit ? Nay,—
‘Walk within walls no more the passage bar,
Than unopposing space of liquid air.’

Oil Color: Lightly yellowish oil on my skin.
Bottle Design and Artwork: This is a standard brown apothecary bottle. The label wrapped around the bottle features the name of the company in grey Lombardic-adjacent font along the bottom, just above which is the name of the perfume in white Lombardic-adjacent white font. The name of the collection is centered along the top of the label, in the same grey font as the company name. The label art is as featured below:
- ITB: It does remind me of Victorian mourning attire – taffeta, black and whispering is set against beautiful lace, crushed and wilted rose petals, while the incense of remembrance swirls between and around the other notes.
- Wet: Worn lase lightly dusted with vanilla infused with deliciously sweet and frankincense. Wiled dark red rose petals seep effortlessly throughout the room, accompanied by the stately taffeta, gentle shifting underneath the more resinous notes.
- Dry: After 12 hours, I’m surprised to have any scent left; instead, I’m met with lacy frankincense, a smidgen of opoponax, and dried rose petals. Gorgeous. This reminds me of a softer version of Tattered Lace.
Other Impressions: None.
