Scent Name: Song of the Otherworld
Manufacturer: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab – Yule 2018
Scent Description and Notes: “On the darkest nights of winter, the swirling winds buffet battle cries and the moans of the long-dead on their blue-fingered eddies. Storm clouds rumble in the east, and a host of wailing spirits, wights, and ghouls gibber, drift, and creep through the land.
Sleet and champaca, fir needle and opoponax, blue musk and cypress, balsam and snow.” -https://blackphoenixalchemylab.com/shop/winter-collection/yule-2018/song-of-the-otherworld/
Oil Color: Colorless on my skin.
Bottle Design and Artwork: This is a standard brown apothecary bottle. The label wrapped around the bottle features the name of the company in pale pink font along the bottom. Above that is the name of the scent in shadowed and outlined larger white font. The name of the collection is in lighter pink font along the top of the label. The label art is as featured below:
- ITB: What a gorgeous snow note! It’s crisp, almost sprinkled with citrus, cool but refreshing. On second sniff, I can pick out some of the blue musk followed by a touch of cypress and opoponax, but it is the snow note that really shines here.
- Wet: While the snow is still the initial impression, fir and cypress follow quick behind it once applied to the skin. The musk and opoponax drift delightfully underneath the cool, crisp snow and stark woody notes, anchoring the scent but at the same time adding a gauzy cast to the scent as a whole.
- Dry: Champaca musk with some sweet from the snow. It’s nice, but it just didn’t last as long as I had wanted.
Other Impressions: “Like grandma in a leather jacket with fresh-baked cookies.” -Tony
