Scent Name: The Temptation
Manufacturer: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab – Ars Amatoria: In Memoriam
Scent Description and Notes: “‘
The Demon, in my chamber high,
This morning came to visit me,
And, thinking he would find some fault,
He whispered: “I would know of thee
Among the many lovely things
That make the magic of her face,
Among the beauties, black and rose,
That make her body’s charm and grace,
Which is most fair?” Thou didst reply
To the Abhorred, O soul of mine:
“No single beauty is the best
When she is all one flower divine.
When all things charm me I ignore
Which one alone brings most delight;
She shines before me like the dawn,
And she consoles me like the night.
The harmony is far too great,
That governs all her body fair,
For impotence to analyse
And say which note is sweetest there.
O mystic metamorphosis!
My senses into one sense flow —
Her voice makes perfume when she speaks,
Her breath is music faint and low!”
An expression of love, adoration, and desire, of beauty that transcends mortal desire and piques the interest of hell itself: attar of rose, calla lily, palmarosa, peach blossom, wisteria, rice flower, and black musk.“ -https://blackphoenixalchemylab.com/shop/in-memoriam/general-catalogue/the-temptation/
Oil Color: The color of dilute white grape juice.
Bottle Design and Artwork: This is a standard vial / imp size (1/32 oz). The label wrapped around the bottle features an Art-Deco inspired phoenix with name of the company next to the phoenix. On the other side, the title of the scent is written in large, clear black font outlined with red on the front.
- ITI: This reminds me of the Lab’s later Shunga scents with its delicate but fragrant peach blossom and soothing rice flower notes, although this has more of a velvety floral petal depth from the calla lily and rose-toned notes from the palmarosa and attar of rose. There’s a whisper of musk threaded through the florals, but not enough to detract from their beauty.
- Wet: Gorgeous! Wafting peach blossoms deepened with white calla lily, muted rose, and wisteria at dawn, sweetened like distant laughter beckoning from a a garden. Soon, the rice flower emerges, adding a mellowness to the sweet top notes that rounds the scent as a while. This has a similar clear peachiness (reach peach) that The Body shop’s Peach used to have, but The Temptation is much more delicate and youthfully floral.
- Dry: While beautiful, this scent sadly lacks a great deal of throw after two hours of dry-time. That’s not enough to detract from its peach blossom and warm rice flower loveliness, blushes with just the right amount of rose to be sweetly balanced.
Other Impressions: “It’s like a floral tropical fruit punch. There’s a bit of airiness at the end, like fresh laundry. It’s really nice!” -Tony
