Bottle Design and Artwork: This is a standard BPAL brown apothecary bottle. The label wrapped around the bottle features the name of the scent in bold, white letters with a drop shadow centered on the label, set against the image below as background. The name of the sub-collection is in a smaller version of the font along the top, while the company name is in slightly larger font along the bottom.
- ITB: I get very warm, almost humid chestnut with a touch of pine. There’s a hint of softness here from the resins that I hope will develop, but it’s very faint.
- Wet: Strong terebinth pine, almost blue-green if I had to assign a color to it over sinuous myrrh. I’m not getting much else, but the pine note is fantastic. It’s not too dark for those av raid of green or pine notes, but it’s more refreshingly pine, like a eucalyptus grove almost.
- Dry: (30 minutes) The black terebinth now dried is really a lovely note. It isn’t pitchy or tarry like some previous pine notes, but well-balanced and soft when paired with the sandalwood, gently sweet golden frankincense, and myrrh. It reminds me of a pine forest at dusk – soft, slightly blurred, cool but still inviting. The chestnut adds a bit of earthy warmth to the scent that keeps the perfume from going dark, howling woods like Black Forest. The longer it dries (1 hour), the more the notes blend together, while subtle smokey resinousness gentle clouds around the pine and the chestnut. This definitely shifts, but is enjoyable nonetheless.
Other Impressions: I’ve been on the fence about getting a bottle of this, but I think the dry-down has sold me.
