Scent Name: Sweet Morphine
Manufacturer: Ex Nihilo
Scent Description and Notes: “The Scoop
The fine line between delicate pleasure and dangerous obsession is at the core of Sweet Morphine, the newest temptation from Ex Nihilo. An enchanting floral with a darkly addictive woody vanilla base, Sweet Morphine is a fragrance for any innocent-seeming beauty with a hidden wickedness beneath the surface.
Sweet Morphine opens with a deceptively fresh burst of floral lightness from a tender bloom of lilac, clean and feminine. In the heart, iris begins to twist the freshness into something deeper and more resonant, still utterly beautiful but suddenly toothsome and full bodied. As the dark accord of wood sets in, with creamy vanilla in tow, we’re completely enthralled, doomed to a life of compulsive servitude. Addiction never smelled so gorgeous.

Scent:
- ITI: While I do detect the alcohol base, it’s not oppressive like some scents and doesn’t fully detract away from the powdery lilac and iris notes that meet my nose first. These floral hues are flushed with the suggestion of a distant vanilla over woody tones that shift between coffee grounds, agarwood, perhaps round oak and maybe a sliver of cedar.
- Wet: The floral tones are still quite powdered, yet the run more closely together with the woody bases, rounded with now a creamy vanilla. I do think there might be an oudic wood thrown and now maybe a suggestion of patchouli because there’s a distinct rootiness alongside the iris. The powderiness does make this feel like an older classic blend, but it’s something I could imagine Blanche Devereaux wearing. It does give me a bit of a headache, so this one might be best applied before jumping into a crowded elevator.
- Dry: After 7 hours, the scent has settled into a creamy, roundly vague floral with a breathy, powdery vanilla tone. It’s pleasant now that it’s not nearly so overpowering.
Other Impressions: [Wet] “It’s like, it’s like violet but it disappears almost instantly. It’s really effervescent violet; it’s almost like what if a smell is carbonated. It’s interesting, definitely different. I wonder how long it lasts.” -Tony
