Scent Name: Nibble Nibble Gnaw
Manufacturer: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab – Carnaval Diabolique, Act IV: The Interlude
Scent Description and Notes: “Looking down, you see a scattering of breadcrumbs strewn on the packed soil and straw at your feet. A waft of candied apple and pancakes embraces you, as you follow the crumbs on the path. The scent intensifies: sugared nuts, crushed candies, hot gusts of chocolate, and you find yourself standing before a small booth constructed of cakes, pastries, sweet breads, and a cascade of candy tiles. Shards of clear sugar glint in the ambient firelight of the Midway, and an old woman emerges from the shadows within. She extends a gnarled hand to you and rasps, “Oh, you dear, what has brought you here? You look like skin and bones; a strong gust of wind would spirit you into the air. Do come in, and visit with me. No harm shall happen to you.”” -https://blackphoenixalchemylab.com/shop/carnaval-diabolique/carnaval-diabolique-2015/nibble-nibble-gnaw/
Oil Color: The color of a lightly peached white wine.
Bottle Design and Artwork: This is a 1/32 imp decant from Ajevie. The label features the year and the company name across the font in large burgundy and purple font. The back of the label has the company name and scent notes in small black font, while the name of the scent is above that in larger stylized black font. The bottle image appears as follows:
Scent:
- ITI: Oh, that’s very foody. Opening the imp feels like walking into a confectionary’s food stall, the smell of rich, bubbling hot chocolate muddled with sweet baked pastries, thickly sugar shellacked candied apples, and warmed sugared nuts.
- Wet: I’m not sure where the boozy note is coming from, but now the scent smells like spiked hot chocolate with sugared-dusted warm pastries and slices of candied applies. The sugared nuts take about 30 to warm, but they are there under the strong pancake pastry and hot chocolate tones. This is far too foody for me at this stage.
- Dry: After 4 hours, the scent is much more balanced, a sweet candied apple musk with a subtle impression of a chocolate pancake or croissant. While it is still foody, it isn’t as cloying as it was while wet. However, this still wouldn’t be a scent that I would wear on my own.
Other Impressions: [Wet] “It smells like a creamy kettle corn that has gone slightly off. Like, there’s definitely some spoiled milk in there. Yeah, I don’t think spoiled milk should be one of your scent notes.”-Tony
