Scent Name: Shroud
Manufacturer: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab – Ars Moriendi: In Memoriam
Scent Description and Notes: “Dry white sandalwood wrapped in thin woods, soft grasses and the lightest white flowers layered over cajeput*and the warm, deep scent of embalming herbs.” – https://scentbase.com/scents/black-phoenix-alchemy-lab-bpal/shroud/200809019845
*Cajeput: Also called white samet, this myrtle-related plant has a slightly camphoraceous, slightly fruity smell akin to rosemary and eucalyptus but with more smoky greenness.
Oil Color: The color of Canola oil.
Bottle Design and Artwork: This is a standard vial / imp size (1/32 oz). The label wrapped around the bottle features an Art-Deco inspired phoenix with name of the company next to the phoenix. On the other side, the title of the scent written in large, clear black font outlined with red on the front. This is an imp I received directly from the Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab.
Scent:
- ITI: It’s slightly lemony, but like cleaner, embittered with greens herbs and charged with white florals in the back. It is clean, and freshly so, but it’s more mournful thanks to the embalming herbs and the cajeput.
- Wet: Clean, lightly soapy and almost floral, like the sterilized essence of gardenia in a turn-of-the century laboratory.
- Dry: After 2 hours, I’m getting soft white floral musk and clean, slightly lemony cajeput flecked with green grass with a subtle tendril of sandalwood far in the back. It’s nice, not something I feel like I’m missing out on.
Other Impressions: [Wet] “It’s like a lemony rose with a hint of raspberry jam in the background.” -Tony
